Positano is full of shops, but true craftsmanship, made here and made to measure, is rarer than it seems. I am a Positano artisan and this is my honest guide.
Custom sandals
The classic of classics: Positano sandals cut and sewn on your foot while you wait. Look for the workshops where you can see the workbench, it is the guarantee that the sandal is born right there.
Positano fashion
Linen, lace and the colors of the sea: the Moda Positano textile tradition has dressed generations of visitors. The same rule applies: the unique piece reveals itself by the workshop in plain sight.
Ceramics of the Amalfi Coast
Lemons, maiolica and bright glazes come from all over the Coast. A hand painted plate has small imperfections that make it recognizable: they are the artisan's signature.
Handmade wooden glasses
Then there is my workshop, CREO Positano Glasses, at via Cristoforo Colombo 163/A: sunglasses and prescription glasses in wood, slate, ceramic and cork, built to measure in front of your eyes in 2-3 days. 152 frame designs over six years, free engraving of a name or your travel date: it is the souvenir you use every day, not the one that stays in a drawer.
The golden rule
Wherever you walk in, look for the workbench. If you see wood shavings, needles, glazes or brushes, you are buying the real Positano. If you only see shelves, it probably arrived in a box.
When you pass through Positano, come watch a pair of glasses being born: hours and contacts here.
