From June to September it happens almost every week. Someone walks in holding their glasses, with the face of a person who thinks the holiday is ruined. It almost never is.
First of all, do not throw them away
I am a certified optician and my workshop is right behind the shop, at via Cristoforo Colombo 163/A. Screws, hinges, bent temples and nose pads are the daily bread of a workbench: come by and we will look at it together.
If the frame is wooden
Here is an advantage few people know about: a broken factory frame gets thrown away, a frame built in a workshop gets repaired in a workshop. That is true for mine, and often for others too.
If you lost your prescription glasses
With your prescription I fit corrective lenses on a wooden frame as well. If you have the prescription on your phone, even better: most of the time that is where we start.
If you do not have the prescription with you
Frame measurements are printed inside the temple, and the power can often be read from the old lenses, if you still have them. Bring them anyway, even broken: they say more than you would think.
And if this is the excuse you were waiting for
Some people walk in with broken glasses and leave happy, because they replaced them with a pair chosen piece by piece: the wood, the lens colour, the size, a name engraved inside the temple. Two or three days and they are ready, while you carry on with your holiday.
The workshop is open in season: here are the hours and how to find me. Come and say hello, and bring the glasses with you.
